Our Annual Out-of-State College Visit
Every year, By Degrees facilitates an out-of-state college visit to Historically Black College and Universities (HBCUs). This year, we're taking 40 students to Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), a federal designation indicating that at least 25% of an institution's undergraduate student body is Hispanic.
Students will tour University of Illinois Chicago and Northeastern Illinois University. Students will also visit the Lincoln Park Zoo, Willis (formerly Sears) Tower, and experience dinner at Gino’s East (one of the two founding Chicago-style pizza restaurants) and Ed Debevics. For many students, our HBCU and HSI visits are their first experiences outside of Iowa.
